My Sister is Thrilled to Be Living on Her Own

Finding a great loft for my sister was tons of work. My husband and I had been living in N.Y.C. for the last three years and we loved it.

My little sister was living in Minnesota, and she wanted a change. She had been together for three years and her husband and she had an especially bad divorce. She asked if she could come and stay with me and my husband while she got her life back together.

I told her of course. My sister had lots of stuff, so we had to find her a NYC mini storage place to put all of her things. We found a place called storage NYC where we were able to put most of her things. My sister came and stayed with us and the whole time she was out looking out for a job. She was able to find a great job in fashion, so all we had to do was help her to be able to get a loft.

Getting a studio in N.Y.C. is a huge ordeal; first we had go and look for different places, and then we had to apply, we had to get lots of money down for a down payment; because getting a flat here is like buying a house. After we managed to get all the applications in, we had to wait; my sister didn’t get a call from any of the residences, so we had to go out again and look for other places.

We asked for one that was very pricey, but my sister really liked it. They needed to do a credit history check on her, and they needed to make sure that she had twenty thousand dollars to put down on the apartment. My sister had all the requirements they asked her for, so she was able to get the flat. Moving day was a headache, because there were so many different things we had to get together for her move, and we also had to get all her things out of storage. Eventually, we managed to get all her things moved, and now she’s living in an exceedingly nice apartment. It took us a lot of work to get my sister the flat that she wanted, but now she’s very happy to be living on her own.
